2017 Year End Appeal
Dear Fellow Unitarians and Universalists,
The events of this past year have brought with them a growing sense of our human frailty and fragility. The voices of division and oppression are increasing rather than diminishing. And the need for our liberal religious voices to be loud and robust has not lessened. The raising violence and unrest, the on-going and often more difficult struggle for human rights, and the increasing restrictions on religious freedom demand our religious response. We believe that part of that response is to ensure the vitality of our Unitarian and Unitarian Universalist faith communities around the globe.
ICUU’s efforts to strengthen the capacity of U/U groups around the world to better serve their congregations and their people is why many of us devote so much of our lives to this collective expression of our faith; to the cooperative power of our shared faith. Together we are empowering U/U communities around the world to sustain and strengthen the voice of our liberal faith globally and to increase our impact on issues affecting us all. This work is only possible through your involvement, advocacy, and generous support.
The International Council of Unitarians and Universalists is unique in focusing support on national Unitarian and Unitarian Universalist institutions wherever they may emerge and building relations between them. It is when these organized communities are strong and vibrant that they can support healthy local faith communities, raise up and nurture the next generation of leaders and respond resiliently and effectively to local challenges.
ICUU leadership has spent much of 2017 on the essential work of re-envisioning how we may best serve our global faith community. We are finding ways for our groups to communicate more often and more directly with one another, we are assisting new faith communities in while continuing to build strong relationships with our existing groups. I hear from Unitarians and Universalists every day from around the world how important being connected to one another is, how crucial the support we can offer each other is and how isolating working for religious freedom can be. I hear how our free faith is the place to bring their hope for a better world.
Your contributions will directly support our ability to best serve our growing, vibrant global family of faith. I hope you will join me in supporting this work. And so, as you consider your year-end priorities, I ask that you consider a special gift to the International Council of Unitarians and Universalists. Every year we stretch our resources to their limit as we knit together our global community and nurture our shared faith. Your generous support will help us sustain the work already underway and allow us to continue to dream even bigger dreams in the year ahead.
Blessings for a Happy & Healthy Holiday Season!
